The Shepherd Neame 4 County Final
Old Whitgiftians were not quite able to match the previous week's heroics when they lifted the Surrey Twenty20 title at Sutton. Representing Surrey in the 4 Counties Finals at the Kent County Ground Beckenham where a large crowd had gathered, they were drawn against the powerful Bromley (Kent) side in the first semi final.
Bromley had just lifted the National Knock Out trophy at Lords a few days earlier and fielded some recent pro's in their side including Matthew Dennington (Kent) and Nadeem Shahid (Surrey). The Kent champions won the toss and batted first making 160-9 from their 20 overs with Dennington top scoring with 36. Rupesh Amin again took the bowling honours for OW's taking a remarkable 6-20 from his 4 overs including a hat trick from the last 3 balls of the innings.
In response Whits lost David Ward to a fine catch early on and were struggling when Jordan Uszko holed out to the square leg boundary followed quickly by the loss of Alex Goward. Skipper Mike Winson played some good shots in his 29 and Ali Raja hit two big sixes in his 23 but in the face of some fine Bromley bowling led by skipper Grant Sheen and Dennington (3-18) OW's could only muster 86 all out from 15 overs.
Finchley (Middlesex) overcame Saffron Walden (Essex) in the other semi final before beating Bromley in the final.
