Well done to all concerned
for the fantastic results over the weekend which saw some of the most
spectacular OW batting for a long time. Full scorecards can be viewed on
Play Cricket but in summary:
Nick Flood's 3rd X1 are now promoted after the 10 wicket hammering of Old
Paulines in which Harshil Shah took 4-34 as we dismissed the home side for 102
before John Weller and Tom Woodrow knocked the runs off in just 14.2 overs. We
are in 2nd place, 9 points ahead of Epsom who are 4th (3 go up). However as
Ashtead (3rd) play Epsom next week we are guaranteed at least 3rd place. Well
done to Nick and his players for bouncing back at the 1st attempt!
The magic of the Man with the Midas touch (aka Brian Harris) continues as our
Surrey Trust Development League side (U18) retained their title with a
comprehensive victory over local rivals Addiscombe yesterday before a large
crowd at Banstead. Our bowlers all did well to restrict Addiscombe to 151-9 from
their 40 overs. Vishal Patel 3-26 and Raj Chatwal 2-34 were the most successful.
Our response stuttered and at 17-3 we appeared to be in a spot of bother but a
magnificent innings of 87 not out from Pardeep Chatwal (58 balls, 13 fours and
one six), ably supported by the experience of Robbie Smith (43 not out) saw us
home in only 22.3 overs and put the Addiscombe bowlers to the sword. The six by
Pardeep which cleared the hedge will be remembered by all present for a long
time! Father Baldeep (All stars captain) was even moved to buy some champagne as
the celebrations continued back at Croham Road!!
All Development League and Godstone Twenty20 players will be pleased to know
that Brian will be organising a suitable meal in the near future to celebrate
this double triumph!! Watch this space!
Simon Hill's Second X1 enjoyed a hard fought win at Leatherhead to give
them a 24 point cushion above the drop zone and have moved above Beddington into
7th place. This win looked unlikely as we were bowled out for just 123 but our
bowlers responded superbly to dismiss the hosts for 87 to claim the 13 points.
Andy Hooper 4 wkts and Daniel Kenton 3 wkts did most of the damage. We now need
4 points from the remaining 2 games to ensure safety.
Finally the 1st X1 lead by Ali Raja (supported by the WAGS enjoying large
quantities of Pimms) comprehensively won an entertaining game at Croham Road on
Saturday against the old enemy, Old Mids. Having lost the toss and been asked to
field we did well to bowl out OMW for 232 on a flat pitch. Suranjith Silva
bowled very well again to take 6-59 and has now taken 19 wickets in the last 3
games raising his season's tally to 48!
In response an exceptional innings of 125 not out from the man batting on one
ankle, David Ward (113 balls, 19 fours, two sixes), was the mainstay of our
innings supported by Jason Lewis with 52 and Robbie Smith 35 not out as the
opposition attack was dismantled and we won with 4.3 overs to spare by 7
wickets. The surprise news that Old Emanuel had beaten Epsom by 4 runs means
that we are only 10 points off 2nd place and still have everything to play for
with 2 games left. All support will be welcomed in these games which are away at
Camberley and Cheam.
If next weekend is anything like this one Stuart Cocks has promised to go
straight to the top of the bar league!!
Best wishes
Stuart
