10th January 2005 Rotary aids for Tsunami Relief top £20,000 from across Sutton. Rotarians around the Borough are still overwhelmed by the astonishing generosity of the Sutton public. The reactions of people were very moving. As Rotary has members in all of the areas involved we can get aid straight to the point of need, without delay. The six Rotary Clubs have between them raised over £20,000 with our Store and Street Collections along with donation from Rotary members and their friends. “We would like to thank wholeheartedly everyone in Carshalton, Cheam, Sutton and Wallington for their support and contribution to our collections since the disaster started.” Said George Hatley Assistant Governor (Rotary District 1140) Sutton Clubs along with Rotary Clubs all over the world are now planning what longer term support that they can provide. All manner of events are already in the planning stage. For all the latest updates on our collections and future events please look on our website at www.rotaryinsutton.org.uk.
Commenting on the success of the Rotary collection for the Tsunami disaster appeal, the Mayor of Sutton, Cllr Tony Brett Young said: "It is fitting that at the beginning of the centenary of the international Rotary movement so many members of Sutton's six Rotary clubs have given such strong support to this truly international appeal. Sutton's Rotarians can always be found at the heart of any community activity in our borough."
